Our Commitment to Safeguarding Families
While Urban Community AgriNomics (UCAN) believes deeply in second chances and successful community reentry, our highest priority is protecting the children and families utilizing our services. To maintain a secure environment, we enforce a strict zero-tolerance safety policy. We do not admit or employ individuals with a history of domestic abuse, domestic violence, or child trafficking. We remain dedicated to a safe, restorative space for everyone we serve.
How to Apply & Selection Process
UCAN uses a formal application and selection process. Submission of an application does not guarantee selection. Selected participants will complete onboarding before the cohort start date.

● Step 2 — Initial Screening: UCAN staff review applications for program fit, availability, and interest alignment.
● Step 3 — Interview/Intake: Qualified applicants complete an interview and intake assessment.
● Step 4 — Selection & Notification: UCAN notifies selected applicants and confirms start date and cohort expectations.
● Step 5 — Onboarding: Completion of required paperwork, orientation, and training schedule confirmation before the cohort begins.
Expanding Opportunities Through Collaboration: 2.2 Acres Cleared for Reentry & Agriculture
We’re excited to announce the completion of our Collaborative Agricultural Project with the Eno River Association and Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail!
Thanks to a dedicated team of 27 volunteer sawyers and swampers, 2.2 acres have been cleared to support our reentry program and expand sustainable agriculture at the farm.
We’re deeply grateful for this powerful partnership—your hard work brings us closer to a healthier, more equitable future.
We’re excited to share an update on the progress in our cleared land area at the Catawba Trail Farm! Stacy Spencer has done a phenomenal job leading a controlled burn to prepare the space, and we’ll be recycling the burned wood into mulch to enrich the soil.
As this area continues to take shape, our next step will be completing the fencing, followed by beginning the process of planting and gardening. This expanded growing space will allow us to provide even more fresh produce to the community and support our Reentry Program.
We’re grateful for the progress so far and even more excited for what’s ahead!
